Picture Day

Picture day is this Thursday, March 12th. You can order individual and/or a class photo by turning in the order form or by ordering online at mylifetouch.com. To order individual pictures online, use the ID code EVT3QHGF4. To order a class photo online, use the ID code EVTVWWSZQ. 

Read Week

Read week starts nexts week! Everyday during March 16th - March 20th our school will have dress up days in honor of celebrating our love for reading! 😊

This Week We Are Learning....

Reading Comprehension
*We are learning how to identify similarities and differences between 2 non-fiction texts so that we can compare and contrast them.
* We are learning how to use a venn diagram so that we can show our thinking when we compare  and contrast two texts.
Word Study
*We are learning the ar pattern. (There will be a spelling test on this pattern this Friday).
Math
*We are learning how to add a two digit number plus a multiple of ten (23 + 10 or 17 + 20). Click HERE to see the concepts we are learning in this unit.
Social Studies
*We are learning about how jobs can help us pay for things we want and need.
Writing
*We are learning how to research a topic and write an informational paragraph.

Weekly Update 2/24 - 2/28

Box Tops

Our class is collecting box tops! If you have any extra box tops please bring them into the school. You can also scan your box tops by using the app-- make sure to give credit to our classroom by entering my name and our school name. You can out more information on how to use the box top scanning app by clicking HERE. The last day to turn in box tops is this Wednesday, February 27th. 

Yearbooks 

Willow Creek yearbooks are now available for purchase! You can order online at www.ybpay.lifetouch.com. Our Willow Creek yearbook ID code is 12895020. Yearbooks will be distributed at the end of the school year. Year book orders are due by March 6th, 2020.

*We are learning how to identify similarities and differences between texts so that we can compare and contrast them.
* We are learning how to use a venn diagram so that we can show our thinking when we compare  and contrast two.
Word Study
*We are learning the ci, ce, and ge pattern.
Math
*We are learning how two digits of a two-digit number represent an amount of tens and ones.
*We are learning how to draw tens and ones using base 10 blocks. Click HERE to see the concepts we are learning in this unit.
Social Studies
*We are learning about how clothes helps protect us from the environment.
* We are learning about how kids around the world change their clothes to adapt to the environment.

Weekly Update 2/18 - 2/21

Sight Words Assessment

This week your child will be assessed on the sight words they have been learning the past few weeks. These are the words that have been on their homework. If you would like to have your child review these words, click HERE.

Hat Day

The 3rd Friday of every month is "Hats Off to Teachers" at Willow Creek. Your child can wear a hat to school with a $1 "fee". This money is donated to the PTA and 100% of the money is give back to our classroom as a donation for us to buy classroom materials! 🎉

Social Studies
**We are learning about why water is one of our most important basic needs.
* We are learning about how kids around the world also need water.
*We are comparing/contrasting how we get water in the U.S.A. vs. how a kids around the world get water.

Weekly Update 2/3 - 2/7

Hello families!
Thank you to all the families that donated to our St. Lukes food drive! Our class raised 185 food items! 😊 Here are this week's announcements:

Valentine's Day Party

Our class will be having a Valentine's Day Party on Friday, February 14th from 2:45-3:40. Families are welcome to join us! We will be doing an art project, eating Valentine's Day snacks, and passing out our Valentine cards. We will be making Valentine goodie bags prior to the party to put our Valentine cards in --- so there is no need to make or bring a Valentine's Day goodie bag. 😊

*We learning how to measure items with standard (centimeter cubes) and non-standard units (paper clips).
Social Studies
*We are learning about why shelter is one of our most important basic needs.
* We are learning about how kids around the world also need shelter.
*We are comparing/contrasting how shelter around the world is the same & different than our shelter in the U.S.A.

Weekly Update 1/21 - 1/24

Hello families!
I hope you all had an awesome 3 day weekend! Here are this weeks announcements.... 😊

End of First Trimester 


Last Friday was the end of the first trimester. I submitted all of the grades that your child has completed thus far into the school year into PowerSchool. Our school district doesn't print out formal report cards any more, so make sure you check out your child's grades online on PowerSchool to see how they are doing! I'm so proud of all the hard work that our class has done so far this year! 💗 

St. Lukes Food Drive


Our school's 6th Annual Food Drive for St. Luke's Children's Hospital starts on Tuesday, January 21st and ends on Friday, January 31st. Below is a list of the food items needed. Thank you for support in this awesome cause. The class with the most donated items will win a class party so make sure to let the office know if the donation is from our class! 😊

Weekly Update 1/13 - 1/17

Hello Families!
We had a great first week back to school! We've been working hard down here in first grade! Here are this week's announcements 😊

Homework This Week

Homework has started back up again this week. Please make sure your child is reading every night 15-20 minutes and that you are having them practice their sight words for the week. ðŸ˜Š

Subway Day

It's that time of month again at the Creek -- Subway Day is on Friday, January 24th 🎉 On Friday, your child brought home a Subway order form. If you want to buy Subway for your child make sure to turn in the Subway order form by this Thursday, January 16th. If you would like to join your child for Subway day, you can fill out a second form in your name and return it with your child's order. Our lunch is from 12:15-12:35.

Early Release Day on Friday

This Friday is Early Release day. School will be getting out at 1:25pm.

Hat Day

Weekly Update 1/6 - 1/10

Hello families!
Welcome back!! I hope you all had an amazing break! We are off to a great first week back to school! Over the next few days we will be reviewing our classroom rules and getting settled into the school routine again. 😉 Before the break, I didn't get a chance to send out the slide show of all the fun activities we did during the last week before Christmas vacation. Thank you for all your help in making Grinch Week a success-- we had SO MUCH fun! 😊

No Homework This Week

There will be no homework this week. Please continue to have your child read to  you 15-20 minutes every night. We will not start homework again until January 13th.

We are learning about nouns (person, place, or thing).
