Weekly Update 1/21 - 1/24

Hello families!
I hope you all had an awesome 3 day weekend! Here are this weeks announcements.... 😊

End of First Trimester 


Last Friday was the end of the first trimester. I submitted all of the grades that your child has completed thus far into the school year into PowerSchool. Our school district doesn't print out formal report cards any more, so make sure you check out your child's grades online on PowerSchool to see how they are doing! I'm so proud of all the hard work that our class has done so far this year! 💗 

St. Lukes Food Drive


Our school's 6th Annual Food Drive for St. Luke's Children's Hospital starts on Tuesday, January 21st and ends on Friday, January 31st. Below is a list of the food items needed. Thank you for support in this awesome cause. The class with the most donated items will win a class party so make sure to let the office know if the donation is from our class! 😊

This Week We Are Learning....

Reading Comprehension
*We are learning how to identify the main idea and details of a non-fiction text.
Word Study
*We are learning the long u (silent e) pattern
Math
*We are reviewing for our math test this week. We will be reviewing addition and subtraction within 20.
Social Studies
*We are learning about wants vs. needs.

Weekly Update 1/13 - 1/17

Hello Families!
We had a great first week back to school! We've been working hard down here in first grade! Here are this week's announcements 😊

Homework This Week

Homework has started back up again this week. Please make sure your child is reading every night 15-20 minutes and that you are having them practice their sight words for the week. ðŸ˜Š

Subway Day

It's that time of month again at the Creek -- Subway Day is on Friday, January 24th 🎉 On Friday, your child brought home a Subway order form. If you want to buy Subway for your child make sure to turn in the Subway order form by this Thursday, January 16th. If you would like to join your child for Subway day, you can fill out a second form in your name and return it with your child's order. Our lunch is from 12:15-12:35.

Early Release Day on Friday

This Friday is Early Release day. School will be getting out at 1:25pm.

Hat Day

The 3rd Friday of every month is "Hats Off to Teachers" at Willow Creek. Your child can wear a hat to school with a $1 "fee". This money is donated to the PTA and 100% of the money is give back to our classroom as a donation for us to buy classroom materials! 🎉

*We are learning the take from 10 strategy to solve subtraction problems.
Social Studies
*We are learning about geography! We are learning how to explain what maps and globes represent and how they are used.
*We are learning to name and locate the continent, country, state, and city in which we live.
*We are learning how to use directions on a map: North, East, South, and West.

Weekly Update 1/6 - 1/10

Hello families!
Welcome back!! I hope you all had an amazing break! We are off to a great first week back to school! Over the next few days we will be reviewing our classroom rules and getting settled into the school routine again. 😉 Before the break, I didn't get a chance to send out the slide show of all the fun activities we did during the last week before Christmas vacation. Thank you for all your help in making Grinch Week a success-- we had SO MUCH fun! 😊

No Homework This Week

There will be no homework this week. Please continue to have your child read to  you 15-20 minutes every night. We will not start homework again until January 13th. 

This Week We Are Learning....

Reading Comprehension
*We are reviewing the difference between fiction vs. non-fiction
*We are learning how to identify the main idea of a non-fiction text.
Word Study
We are reviewing the long i (silent e) pattern. There will not be a spelling test on this pattern.
Math
We are learning how to use the take from 10 strategy to solve subtraction problems.
Writing/Grammar
We are learning about nouns (person, place, or thing).
